FAQ - Frequent Asked Questions

MOOREA BLUE PADDLE
Do you need to know how to swim to practice the offered water activities?
Yes you have to know how to swim at least 25m, but don't worry, you don't have to be a swimming professional!
  • For the KAYAK: Know how to swim, or at least know how to float and get into a safe position on the surface.
  • For Stand Up PADDLE: Knowing how to swim, being comfortable in the water, knowing how to immerse myself and not apprehending falls into the water from my paddle, even if I am a complete beginner in the activity .
We accept beginners on all of our excursions. However, for the 3:30 am and day trips, be sure to be in good physical condition, you will need to complete a self-medical questionnaire on the day of the excursion.

The life jacket is compulsory. All of our Kayak or Paddle vests meet European standards. For children we have vests with ruff and crotch strap, always keeping their heads out of the water. Rest assured our Kayak and Paddle models are stable and easy to access.

You rarely fall from a kayak unintentionally, you just need to listen carefully to the safety instructions. For Stand Up Paddle you have to be more aquatic and not be afraid of falling often!
Which activity to choose according to my abilities?
If you want to have fun in a fun and easy activity, which also allows you to sometimes rest on your partner, opt for the 2-seater Transparent Kayak! Easier than the Stand Up Paddle because it has less wind resistance, the Transparent kayak slides over the water and is easier to handle.

If you are more athletic and aquatic, comfortable in balancing games then opt for an innovative practice thanks to the transparent or classic Stand Up Paddle! This sliding support can bring its share of challenges, but it is an experience you will not forget!

If in doubt, do not hesitate to seek advice from our teaching team by writing to us using the contact form.
Can we mix the 2 nautical supports during an excursion?
Do you want to kayak and your child prefers Stand Up Paddle? No problem, just book a private excursion!

Ask us for our prices and conditions for a private excursion using the contact form.

For any classic excursion, we cannot mix the 2 supports. Indeed, the physical aptitudes and conditions of practice required for these 2 nautical supports are different. Mixing them together would not ensure your optimum safety and could not guarantee the complete satisfaction of our customers.

Do not hesitate to contact us by email for more information using the contact form.
Is there an age limit for Kayak or Stand up Paddle activities?
Yes. Children under 5 are not allowed to navigate for safety reasons, unless they can demonstrate certain aquatic ease. In stand up paddle boarding, the minimum age is 7 years old. The adult age limit is 65.

For any exemption request, you can contact us by email using the contact form.
How far away is the starting point of the excursion from fishing grounds and resting places?
We have 2 starting points to improve your comfort and safety in the event of wind and changing weather conditions.

A starting point is on the beach of Tiahura Park (entrance opposite the small village pharmacy), located just in front of the 2 motus. The location is ideal for direct access to this essential part of our magnificent lagoon of Moorea. Where the most beautiful corals are found and the marine life that revolves around it. The excursion includes several stops to take advantage of the shallow waters, take a break and hydrate, take photos etc ... From the start you will walk along the beach before crossing in a few minutes the channel which leads directly to the motus then to the spot for stingrays and small blacktip reef sharks. From these spots, the view of the relief and vegetation of Moorea is absolutely incredible. For day trips, the picnic will be taken by the lagoon from a motu.

Another departure point is just after the Intercontinental, from a private pier. We will inform you of the suitable departure point chosen the day before your excursion.
What to pack and what equipment is recommended for the excursions offered?
For any excursion in a transparent kayak or a transparent or classic stand up paddle, remember to equip yourself with:
  • t-shirt or lycra for protection from the sun,
  • cap / hat / scarf,
  • sunglasses,
  • Sunscreen with limited harm to coral reefs and marine life,
  • water shoes if you have them (old sneakers, ventilated plastic shoes, windsurfing slippers or at least flip-flops),
  • a gourd of water (plastic bottle not allowed). If you don't have a water bottle, MOOREA BLUE PADDLE provides you with water,
  • and of course a good mood,
  • a little change if you want to buy the photo pack, our sunscreen not harmful to coral reefs or for your guide who will appreciate,
  • to fully enjoy your transparent kayak excursion, you can also bring fins!

Attention, for any activity in kayak or transparent paddle, it is strongly advised not to bring your personal papers or any valuables, keys etc ... We provide a waterproof bag for the entire duration of the excursion but this waterproof bag can be brought to be shared with other customers.
Is the half-day or picnic-day Kayak trip accessible to everyone?
The main thing is to get away from it all and have a good time together on our beautiful lagoon of Moorea!

MOOREA BLUE PADDLE offers you several routes and excursion times, which allows everyone to choose their route adapted to their level and expectations. A good mood and a little regular physical activity will be enough to get you on the day trip. Our kayaks and paddles boards are stable and their profiling allows a glide without too much effort when the weather conditions are ideal.

Note that we adapt our pace of the ride to your physical condition, with the slowest tandem for transparent kayaks and the weakest rower for transparent paddles. A little advice for transparent kayaks: choose a buddy who paddles harder than you! Either way, your instructor will always be close enough to support you when needed.

Note: The lagoon is generally quieter in the morning.
Is it mandatory to protect yourself from the sun even if there are clouds?
YES! Especially in the Pacific and in French Polynesia, the sun is a vicious player who, even hidden behind the clouds, promises painful sunburn.

If you want to do something for the environment and limit your impact, choose a t-shirt, lycra or any light long-sleeved clothing instead to limit sunscreen only to the face. A sarong on the legs will also do very well!

Regarding sunscreen, know that MOOREA BLUE PADDLE is committed! Indeed, we are very concerned about the protection of our environment and the lagoon of Moorea. We also provide you with sun protection without harmful impact on coral reefs. If our products have convinced you, you can buy them at the end of your eco-excursion.

By buying sunscreen that is not harmful to coral reefs at MOOREA BLUE PADDLE, make a donation to an association in Moorea! Indeed, entirely devoted to the preservation of our unique island, MOOREA BLUE PADDLE is committed even further: donating the profits generated by the sale of sunscreens to an association of Moorea!
